Cherries do match the definition of a fruit, but they are actually classified as drupes. Drupes are often referred to as stone fruits as they have an outer fleshy layer with a thin skin and a pit in the middle. Cherries are packed full of melatonin which is the hormone that helps you to sleep. First introduced to England by Henry VIII after he tried cherries in Belgium. With many different varieties of cherries they fall mainly into two categories, sweet and tart. We import sweet cherries mainly from France, Spain and the USA.
